Our Interpretation of Place-Based Education

Going beyond learning excursions, field trips and classes or even subject content, we believe that Place-Based Education is an approach that can help students discover the importance and meaning of relationships. We believe that the approach will help students see themselves as useful and contributive members of their community. This, in turn, motivates a heightened level of learning, advocacy and active citizenship.

To achieve the above, we are committed to:

  • Explore our own immediate community/ environment as a starting platform for learning;
  • Provide meaningful student involvement with the community and environment;
  • Facilitate and guide our students to achieve a high level of ownership in their learning;
  • Challenge our students to put in their best; and
  • Create a sustained involvement with our partners, community, and environment and facilitate repeated engagements by students;

For us, PBE emphasizes the building of student-community relationships as central to the design and delivery of community-based programmes.
